ABSTRACT

Objective To explore an effective method in intervening brain injury syndrome in early stage. Method Eighty patients with brain injury syndrome admitted to Child's Rehabilitation Department of Nanhai Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine during January 2016 and December 2016 were enrolled and randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 40 cases each. The control group was intervened by functional training, while the treatment group was intervened by Tong Du Xing Shen (unblocking the Governor Vessel and awakening the mind) needling based on the functional training. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by using the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM) and Gesell Developmental Scales after 12-week treatment. Result After the treatment, the GMFM and Gesell scores increased after the treatment in both groups to different extent (P<0.05), and the therapeutic efficacy of the treatment group was superior to that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Tong Du Xing Shen needling plus functional training can significantly promote the development of the gross motor function and cognitive function of brain injury patients, and it's an effective intervention method in early stage of brain injury syndrome.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of massage at Tiantu (CV22) in promoting expectoration in craniocerebral trauma patients, and to lessen complications. Method Fifty craniocerebral trauma patients after extubation were randomized into a control group and a treatment group, 25 cases each. The control group was intervened by nebulization plus tapping back to promote cough and expectoration, while the treatment group was additionally given massage at Tiantu. For successive 3 days, the oxygen saturation, atelectasis and arrhythmias were observed and recorded before and after treatment in the morning, at midday and night, as well as the re-intubation rate, cough and expectoration induced by the treatment in the morning, at midday and night during the 3 days. Result The total effective rate in causing cough and expectoration and the increase of oxygen saturation in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group, while the occurrence of complications including atelectasis and arrhythmias and re-intubation rate in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Massage at Tiantu is helpful to enhance the oxygen saturation and promote cough and expectoration in craniocerebral trauma patients, and it can lessen the occurrence of complications, thus worth applying in clinic.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of abdomen-relaxation-vibration therapy in treating refractory insomnia. Method Eighty patients with refractory insomnia were randomized into a treatment group (40 cases) and a control group (40 cases). The treatment group was intervened by abdomen-relaxation-vibration therapy, while the control group was intervened by oral administration of Diazepam prior to sleep. The clinical efficacy and change of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) in the two groups were observed. Result The scores of PSQI dropped significantly in both groups after the treatment (P<0.01), and the scores in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05); the markedly effective rate and total effective rate were respectively 62.5% and 87.5% in the treatment group, significantly higher than 27.5% and 62.5% in the control group, and there was a significant difference in the therapeutic efficacy between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Abdomen-relaxation-vibration therapy is effective in treating refractory insomnia, and it's easy-to-operate and safe.

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: Comparar os efeitos da massoterapia e pompage cervical na dor e qualidade de vida de mulheres. Método: Trata-se de um estudo quase experimental, no qual a amostra foi composta por 20 mulheres, entre 45 e 65 anos, divididas em dois grupos: 10 receberam massoterapia (Grupo A) e 10 receberam pompage (Grupo B), ambas as técnicas na região cervical. Para avaliação da dor foi a Escala Visual Analógica (EVA) e o Questionário SF-36 para a qualidade de vida, antes e após o período experimental. Resultados: na pompage houve diferença estatisticamente significante nos domínios Capacidade Funcional (p=0,003), Limitação por Aspecto Físico (p=0,006), Vitalidade (p=0,004) e Aspecto Social (p=0,003) da qualidade de vida. Já em relação ao grupo de massoterapia houve diferença apenas no domínio Dor (p=0,012). Conclusão: a massoterapia promoveu melhora na dor e a pompage resultados mais significativos na qualidade de vida, sendo que ambas podem ser utilizadas para tratamento de cervicalgia. (AU)


Objective: To compare the effects of massotherapy and cervical pompation on pain and quality of life of women. Method: This is a quasi-experimental study, in which the sample consisted of 20 women, aged 45-65 years, divided into two groups: 10 received massotherapy (Group A) and 10 received Techniques in the cervical region. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the SF-36 Questionnaire for quality of life were evaluated for pain assessment before and after the experimental period. Results: no statistically significant difference was observed in the areas of Functional Capacity (p = 0.003), Limitation by Physical Aspect (p = 0.006), Vitality (p = 0.004) and Quality of Life (p = 0.003). In relation to the massotherapy group, there was difference only in the Pain domain (p = 0.012). Conclusion: the massotherapy improved pain and pompage results more significant in quality of life, both of which can be used for the treatment of cervicalgia. (AU)

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture and (or) massotherapy plus behavior therapy for cervical spondylosis.Methods Three hundred patients with cervical spondylosis were randomly allocated to three groups (A, B and C) by random number generated from calculator, 100 cases each. In addition to cupping and behavior therapy, group A received electroacupuncture; group B, massotherapy; group C, electroacupuncture and massotherapy. The clinical symptom and sign score was recorded in the three groups before and after treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared.Results There were no statistically significant differences in the clinical control rate, marked control rate and total efficacy rate among the three groups after four and eight weeks of treatment and at the 4-month and 6-month follow-ups after treatment (P>0.05). In the three groups, there was a statistically significant difference in the clinical symptom and sign score between before treatment and after four and eight weeks of treatment or at the 4-month and 6-month follow-ups after treatment (P<0.01) and between after four weeks of treatment and after eight weeks of treatment or at the 4-month and 6-month follow-ups after treatment (P<0.01). There was no statistically significant differences in the clinical symptom and sign score among the three groups after four and eight weeks of treatment and at the 4-month and 6-month follow-ups after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusions Electroacupuncture and (or) massotherapy plus behavior therapy is an effective protocol for preventing and treating cervical spondylosis. It is characterized by simplicity, convenience, easiness and cheapness and can be provide for clinical application.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the promoting effect of acupuncture plus massotherapy on post-lithotripsy stone discharging in urinary stone patients.Methods Sixty-two patients who had received extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 31 cases each. The treatment group received acupuncture plus massotherapy and the control group, no treatment. The incidence of postoperative complications was observed in the two groups. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.Results The total efficacy rate and the incidence of postoperative complication were 90.3% and 61.3%, respectively, in the treatment group and 77.4% and 80.6%, respectively, in the control group. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture plus massotherapy can promote post-lithotripsy stone dis- chargeing in urinary stone patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of triple method of heat-sensitive point moibustion and Taiji acupuncture plus massotherapy in treating facial spasm.Method Sixty patients with facial spasm were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 30 cases each. The treatment group received triple method of heat-sensitive point moibustion and Taiji acupuncture plus massotherapy and the control group, conventional acupuncture plus suspended moxibustion with moxa stick. After three courses of treatment, the clinical therapeutic effects on spasm (severity and frequency) were compared between the two groups. Result The total efficacy rate and the cure and marked efficacy rate for spasm (severity) were 86.7% and 43.3%, respectively, in the treatment group and 66.7% and 26.7%, respectively, in the control group; there were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01). The total efficacy rate and the cure and marked efficacy rate for spasm (frequency) were 83.3% and 46.7%, respectively, in the treatment group and 66.7% and 30.3%, respectively, in the control group; there were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.01).Conclusion Triple method of heat-sensitive point moibustion and Taiji acupuncture plus massotherapy is an effective way to treat facial spasm.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupoint application plus massotherapy for scapulohumeral periarthritis (periarthritis of shoulder). Method One hundred and two patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 51 cases each. The treatment group received acupoint application plus massotherapy and the control group, massotherapy. Both groups were treated for three courses. The VAS score and the Neer shoulder function score were recorded in the two groups before and after treatment. Result The VAS score and the Neer shoulder function score improved in the two groups after treatment compared with before (P<0.05) and improved more in the treatment group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Clinically acupoint application plus massotherapy has a satisfactory therapeutic effect on scapulohumeral periarthritis with a certain effect on pains in the affected shoulder.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture plus massotherapy in treating cervicogenic headache. Methods Ninety-seven patients with cervicogenic headache were randomly allocated to a treatment group of 62 cases and a control group of 35 cases. The treatment group received acupuncture plus massotherapy and the control group, massotherapy alone. The VAS score was recorded and plasma nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin (ET) levels were measured in the two groups before and after treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups. Results The total efficacy rate was 95.2% in the treatment group and 82.9% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the VAS score, neck mobility, and plasma NO and ET levels in the two groups (P<0.05). There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the VAS score, neck mobility, and plasma NO and ET levels in the treatment and control groups (P<0.05). Spearman’s correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between plasma NO and ET levels and the VAS score.Conclusions Acupuncture plus massotherapy is an effective way to treat cervicogenic headache. Its improving effect on headache is closely related to changes in plasma NO and ET levels.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of warm needling plus palm pressing spine reduction technique in treating postpartum thoracic facet joint disorder.Methods Forty patients with postpartum thoracic facet joint disorder were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups, 20 cases each. The treatment group received warm needling plus palm pressing spine reduction technique and the control group, warm needling alone. The numeric pain rating scale (NPRS) score, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score and the Quality of Life Scale score were recorded in the two groups before and after treatment and the clinical therapeutic effects were compared between the two groups.Results The total efficacy rate was 95.0% in the treatment group and 75.0% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the NPRS score and the ODI score in the treatment group (P<0.01). There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the NPRS score in the control group (P<0.01). There were statistically significant post-treatment differences in the NPRS score and the ODI score between the treatment and control groups (P<0.01,P<0.05). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the SF-36 PF, RP, BP, VT, SF and MH scores in the treatment group (P<0.01,P<0.05). There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the SF-36 PF BP, SF and MH scores in the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05).Conclusion Warm needling plus palm pressing spine reduction technique is an effective way to treat postpartum thoracic facet joint disorder.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and massotherapy for cerebral palsy-salivation. Method Forty-eight patients with infantile cerebral palsy were randomly allocated to two groups. The control group of 24 patients received acupoint application of Chinese herbal medicine and did the tongue exercises. The observation group of 24 patients received acupuncture and massotherapy in addition. Result Of the control group, five patients were assessed as grade Ⅰ, four patients as grade Ⅱ, 10 patients as grade Ⅲ, two patients as grade Ⅳ and three patients as grade Ⅴ in the TDS grading after treatment. Of the observation group, 10 patients were assessed as grade Ⅰ, seven patients as grade Ⅱ, four patients as grade Ⅲ, two patients as gradeⅣ and one patients as grade Ⅴ in the TDS grading after treatment. The TDS grading assessment was better in the observation group of patients than in the control group. After treatment, middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity and vessel pulsation index were (135.64±13.72)cm/s and (1.05±0.17), respectively, in the control group and (144.78±16.45)cm/s and (0.90±0.18), respectively, in the observation group. There was no statistically significant difference in speech training between the two groups (P>0.05). The number of independent eating patients was significantly larger in the observation group than in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference (P0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture and massotherapy is safe and of a fair effect in treating cerebral palsy-salivation. It can increase cerebral blood flow, promote the contraction of local muscles, control salivation and improve the quality of life in cerebral palsy patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of heat-sensitive point moxibustion plus manipulative reduction in treating thoracic facet joint disorder. Method A single-blind randomized controlled trial was carried out. Eighty-two patients meeting the criteria were randomly allocated to an observation group of 42 cases and a control group of 40 cases. The observation group received heat-sensitive point moxibustion plus manipulative reduction and the control group, TDP plus manipulative reduction. Both groups were treated five times a week, five times as a course for a total of two courses (including the patients cured after less than two courses). The therapeutic effects were evaluated by using the McGill Pain Questionnaire the as the observation index, comparing pre-/post-treatment Pain Rating Index (PRI) scores, Visual Analogous Scale (VAS) scores and Present Pain Intensity (PPI) scores and referring to the Criteria of the Diagnosis of and the Therapeutic Effect on Syndromes in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Result After treatment, the PRI, VAS and PPI scores decreased significantly in both groups (P<0.01) and were lower in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.01). The cure rate was 57.1% (24/42) in the observation group, which was significantly higher than 27.5% in the control group (11/40,P<0.01). The total efficacy rate was 95.2% (40/42) in the observation group, which was significantly higher than 80.0% in the control group (32/40,P<0.01). Conclusion Heat-sensitive point moxibustion plus manipulative reduction has a very good therapeutic effect on thoracic facet joint disorder. The effect is significantly better than that in the control group.

Las terapias alternativas y complementarias (TAC) constituyen parte importante de las intervenciones desarrolladas en salud y solicitadas por quienes buscan resolver algún problema, mantener o mejorar su situación de salud y bienestar. El presente estado del arte tiene como propósito dar a conocer el análisis reflexivo del cuidado centrado en la persona e integral que surge de la realización de reflexología y masoterapia por parte del profesional de Enfermería. Primero, se desarrolla una descripción de diversas definiciones existentes en torno a TAC, luego se describe la conexión existente entre el cuidado alternativo y complementario y la ciencia de Enfermería, a continuación se desarrolla el proceso de cuidado en masoterapia y reflexología, posteriormente se exponen a través de una discusión los elementos centrales del cuidado centrado en la persona, pilar esencial de las TAC, y finalmente se establecen las conclusiones e implicancias para la práctica de Enfermería de estas terapias.


Complementary and alternative therapies (CAT) represent a relevant dimension of care in the nursing practice. They are requested by people who seek to resolve a particular health problem or condition, and to improve their wellness and health perception. This article is a state of the art and has the purpose of sharing the reflexive analysis of alternative and complementary person-centered care, which emerges from the practice of massage and reflexology for several years by nurse professionals. Primarily, it describes the various definitions existing for complementary and alternative therapies, and then describes the connection among alternative-complementary care and the nursing science. Afterwards, it develops the nursing process for massage and reflexology, then discusses the main aspects of person-centered care, most important factor in CAT, and finally establishes conclusions and suggestions for the nursing practice towards these therapies.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion plus massotherapy for treating bronchial asthma, 56 cases of bronchial asthma were treated by scalp acupuncture,body acupuncture and moxibustion in cooperation with massotherapy and 30 cases, by a routine Western-drug therapy as a control. The control rate and the total effective rate were 60.7% and 98.2%, respectively, in the treatment group and 50.0% and 83.3%, respectively, in the Western-drug group. The curative effect was better in the treatment group than in the Western-drug group (P < 0.05). Vital capacity, immunoglobulin, CO2-combining power and blood oxygen content significantly improved after treatment in the treatment group (P< 0.01,P< 0.05).

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of massotherapy in conjuction with domperidone on motilin and gastric emptying time of patients with diabetic gastroparesis(DGP). Methods One hundred cases of DGP were randomly and equally divided into a control group ( n =50) and a therapy group ( n =50). The control group was treated with domperidone.
